Why Forge & Field Exists

We started Forge & Field because we were tired of the same problem: you’d discover a remarkable piece of outdoor gear: a Helle knife made by the same Norwegian family for three generations, a Trangia cooker that’s outlasted its owner’s tent twice over, and then spend three weeks tracking down where to actually buy it in Canada.

The great brands were out there. The distribution in Canada wasn’t.

So we built the store we wanted to shop at. Canadian warehouse. Real brands with real histories. Shipped in 2–5 days, coast to coast, with all taxes calculated upfront and duties handled at checkout for our friends south of the border.

Our Curation Philosophy

We don’t carry everything. We carry the right things. Every product in our catalogue passed three questions before it earned a place on our shelves:

• Does the maker have real skin in the game? Family-owned, craft-driven, with a track record longer than our attention span.
• Does it actually work in Canadian conditions? Not just on a product page: on a lake in November, on a ridge in March, in a pack for six weeks.
• Is it repairable, not disposable? We believe in gear that earns loyalty. Not gear that fills landfills.

The Canadian Edge

Canada has its own wilderness character. The boreal forest isn’t the Rockies. The Maritimes aren’t the Prairies. Our climate demands more from gear than most markets, and the brands we carry know it.

Helle’s triple-laminated steel holds an edge in the cold. Trangia’s alcohol burners work when gas canisters quit at altitude. Grivel’s ice axes are still being handed down in families that first used them in the Alps.

This isn’t nostalgia. This is function proven by repetition, in conditions that don’t forgive improvisation.
